Félix Houphouët Boigny stadium

History of the Architectural Concept

As Côte d'Ivoire's most emblematic stadium, the Félix Houphouët Boigny Stadium represents a significant challenge and a heavy responsibility. Its location in the Plateau, surrounded by buildings and structures such as St. Paul's Cathedral and the new Cocody Bay Bridge, means that it has to be geographically and symbolically connected to its surroundings.

The deeper meaning of design choices

The New Facade

The new stadium façade is designed to capture the movement and festivity present in the traditional fabrics of Côte d'Ivoire and Africa. It wraps around the existing building, acting as a cultural and social symbol. The design aims to create visual permeability while establishing a strong relationship with the city, bringing the public closer to the events.

A new icon for Abidjan

The distinctive architectural language of the facility transforms the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny into a new icon for the city of Abidjan and the Ivory Coast. By incorporating international standards, a modern approach and environmental awareness, the stadium becomes more than just a sports venue, but rather a significant contribution to the cultural identity and sustainable development of the region.

Sound system

Compliance with FIFA standards, including the guarantee of appropriate sound pressure levels and the ineligibility of the public seated in the stands, is ensured by the use of loudspeakers installed on the roof walkway. These loudspeakers are selected for their ability to generate high sound pressure levels and offer controlled directivity, determined by an electroacoustic study using EASE software.

Parking souterrain

The solution adopted to optimise space in a centralised city centre location, where space availability is limited, was to create an underground parking facility. In addition, this underground structure took into account regulatory constraints, ensuring direct and secure access to the changing rooms for athletes.

Solar panels

This is the installation of a solar photovoltaic system for self-consumption, comprising 342 panels of 400 Wp each and an efficiency of 20%, which will inject the energy produced into the T.G.B.T.N/S, for instant consumption. The total installed power will be 136.80 kWp.
