yamoussoukro
Yamoussoukro, located in the centre of Côte d'Ivoire, is the political and administrative capital of the country. Yamoussoukro has undergone infrastructure developments, including roads, to facilitate connectivity with other regions of the country.
Location
Yamoussoukro has a tropical climate with high temperatures all year round. The rainy and dry seasons are distinct, with heavier rainfall during the rainy season. The surrounding vegetation is mainly savannah, characterised by wooded areas alternating with more open spaces.
culture
As a political capital, Yamoussoukro is also the place where modernity and tradition meet. Urban development and government institutions coexist with local cultural practices and traditions. This diversity contributes to the city's vibrant identity as the country's political and cultural centre.
Points of interest
The Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix Basilica, one of the largest churches in the world, is an emblematic feature of Yamoussoukro's geography. It was built by President Félix Houphouët-Boigny and is a major tourist destination. It is also home to the famous Caiman Lake.

History of the Architectural Concept
Yamoussoukro's new stadium adapts fluidly to a site with a four-metre slope, transforming this natural constraint into an opportunity for innovative architectural solutions. Rooted in the arid earth, the stadium seems to take permanent root in the history of the city, merging harmoniously with the soil that gave it birth.
THE DEEPER MEANING OF DESIGN CHOICES
Sustainable commitment and innovative design for the east stands
The stadium's east stands are designed to remain fixed while allowing them to be dismantled and reused elsewhere, demonstrating SCAU's commitment to sustainable development and thinking about the future of materials.
Emblematic roof and message of unity
The fusion of local elements and international influences allows the building to transcend its physical appearance. In this way, it becomes much more than just a building, embodying an architectural expression that communicates not only African cultural heritage, but also the vibrant sporting spirit that drives the region.
Technical Data
This new infrastructure will be able to accommodate 20,000 spectators and is being built on an area of 20 hectares. The works involved the construction of the main stadium and the renovation of four training stadiums, which included civil engineering, structural steelwork and roofing, the grass pitch, the athletics track, as well as the installation of sports equipment and seating.
